Kayaking

The fiords of the Milford, Dusky and Doubtful Sounds are best explored by kayak. Discovering the untouched wilderness of Fiordland at water level is an unforgettable experience.

Sea kayaking in Fiordland is world renowned, with day trips available in Milford Sound, Dusky Sound and Doubtful Sound as well as overnight kayak excursions in Doubtful Sound. These breathtaking fiords provide opportunities to kayak under waterfalls and alongside dolphins and are a 'must do' Fiordland experience.

Lake kayaking is also plentiful in Fiordland, with Lake Te Anau and Lake Manapouri on the doorstep of Cabot Lodge. The eastern end of Lake Manapouri is possibly the best waterway in New Zealand for kayaking with over 33 islands and many coves, sandy beaches, waterfalls and channels all within a days paddle from the Manapouri township.

River kayaking can be enjoyed on the Hollyford River and Waiau River. Both are nothing short of majestic, crossing through farmland, native forest, and snow capped mountains.

Guests can rent kayaks in Manapouri and explore the Fiordland waters independently, or team up with local guides and learn about our local history, as well as the native flora and fauna, and discover some of the locals secret hideaways. If you would like more information on the various kayaking packages Cabot Lodge has to offer, get in touch, and our team can develop an adventure catered to your skill level, time constraints, and interests.
