This package is ideal for groups who are looking for remote wilderness adventures where the locals love to explore.
Day 1 - A full day exploration into the heart of Fiordland by helicopter, jet boat and on foot. Guests will start the day’s adventure soaring over the Fiordland National Park, taking in views of Lake Monowai, Lake Hauroko and the renowned Hump Ridge Track, stopping at Percy Burn Viaduct to experience the highest wooden Viaduct in the Southern Hemisphere. The helicopter then flies guests to Waitutu Lodge on the beautiful South Coast of New Zealand. Upon arrival, guests will take in a guided walk to the coast, exploring the pristine Waitutu Forest, the oldest Podocarp forest in New Zealand. This exploration is followed by an authentic New Zealand BBQ lunch. Guests will then enjoy the thrill of one of New Zealand most exciting jet boat rides along the wild Wairaurahiri River to the mysterious and serene Lake Hauroko. The Wairaurahiri River is 34 kilometres of rugged, rock-strewn, grade three rapids that drop 600 feet to sea level. While weaving through rapids, a knowledgeable and passionate guide will highlight areas of interest in the pristine surroundings. A helicopter will be waiting to fly guests back to Cabot lodge after the day’s adventures. This action-packed day out is one of Cabot Lodge’s favourite all-day activities, and provides the chance to explore a breathtaking and more remote area of Fiordland.
Day 2 - A private guided hike to one of Fiordland’s gems and a local favourite, Lake Marian. The Lake Marian Track begins off the Milford Road. This road is a journey in itself and just as spectacular as the destination, with never-ending photo opportunities and short nature walks on route. On arrival, an experienced local guide will traverse guests through native forest and raw alpine scenery. The hike starts with a gentle walk alongside a spectacular series of waterfalls, then steepens as the track ascends through a lush forest of fuchsia, ribbon wood and beech trees. Visitors will learn about the natural and human heritage of Fiordland with stops for photographs as well as bird-watching. On arrival, following the two to three-hour walk, hikers are greeted with a panoramic view of the beautiful Lake Marian surrounded by a glacial-carved hanging valley bordered by steep, snow clad mountains. Guests will enjoy a kiwi style picnic lunch and can relax in this magnificent alpine amphitheatre. All gear is provided by the local guides, who are a wealth of knowledge on everything Fiordland and will ensure a memorable day in the remote wilderness of the National Park.
Day 3 - Full day boat cruise and kayak on the beautiful and isolated Doubtful Sound. This trip takes visitors across Lake Manapouri on a comfortable boat cruise, with endless photo opportunities. The cruise is followed by a coach trip over the epic Wilmot Pass through Fiordland’s rainforest and into the Sound. Visitors will then enjoy a three-hour kayak of Doubtful Sound, exploring the beautiful Fiordland waterways. Doubtful Sound is ten times larger than Milford Sound and the vast landscape, never-ending waterfalls, dense native bush, and the resounding sound of silence will take your breath away. Paddling out on the fiord, kayakers will get the chance to view Fiordland’s wildlife, including dolphins, fur seals and occasionally penguins. With an experienced guide and only a small group of kayakers, visitors get a real taste of Doubtful Sound and all it can offer.
This package includes three nights’ accommodation in our two Deluxe Suites with breakfast, evening drink and canapes, as well as daily on-farm activities also provided.
